The Common Thread is a co-operative sewing studio that provides affordable workspace for its members, as well as public access to sewing education, tools, and ressourves. Our objective is to foster a symbiotic relationship between professional sewing artisans and the local community.
Affordable workspace for artisan members
From Sunday to Friday, the Common Thread is a private studio for artisans to work and create. We are currently six artisans working at the studio. To learn more about our members and their work, visit the artisan page.
Every Saturday from 11am-6pm, the Common Thread is open to the public to work on projects of their choice and learn how to sew. Two artisan members are present to facilitate each open workshop, and are available to answer questions, teach, and provide advice. This is open to all levels; no experience needed to attend.
Specific sewing classes at the Common Thread are offered on occasion by the artisans who operate the space, usually in their domain of experience. Upcoming classes are posted on our classes page, as well as our Facebook page.
The Common Thread also facilitates sewing workshops at schools, organisations, and events. We have a mobile kit of 5 domestic sewing machines, as well as tools, fabrics, notions, and patterns, that we bring to facilitate a 2-4 hour workshop. Want the Common Thread to facilitate a sewing workshop at your organisation? Contact us for more information.
